Repair Process
Step-by-Step Timeline
Touch ID Diagnostic
Tested home button under microscope - found cracked glass and damaged flex cable. Explained to customer that Touch ID can only be repaired by pairing new sensor to existing logic board using Apple's proprietary tools.
Display Removal
iPad 8th gen uses adhesive seal around perimeter. Applied heat gun at 80°C to soften adhesive. Used suction cup and plastic cards to separate display from chassis without damaging LCD.
Home Button Extraction
Home button is bonded to display with adhesive and connected via flex cable to logic board. Carefully detached old button assembly, noting exact placement for new button alignment.
Donor Touch ID Preparation
Retrieved genuine Apple home button assembly from donor iPad 8th gen device. This is critical - aftermarket Touch ID buttons don't work due to Apple's Secure Enclave pairing.
Touch ID Re-Pairing Process
Connected new home button to logic board. Used Apple's proprietary programming station to pair new Touch ID sensor to iPad's Secure Enclave chip. This process cannot be done without Apple tools.
Home Button Installation
Positioned new home button in display cutout. Applied precise amount of adhesive to secure button without affecting click mechanism. Connected flex cable to logic board.
Touch ID Enrollment Test
Powered on iPad and tested home button click. Went to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and successfully enrolled 2 test fingerprints. Both recognized on first try - pairing successful!
Display Resealing & Final QA
Applied new adhesive strips around iPad perimeter. Sealed display and pressed evenly. Tested home button 50 times - perfect click every time. Customer enrolled their 3 fingerprints successfully.

"I dropped my iPad on the way to class and the home button shattered. I couldn't unlock it without typing my passcode every time - so annoying during online lectures. Apple said they don't repair home buttons and wanted RM 1,799 for a replacement. Farah fixed it for RM 399 and my Touch ID works perfectly again. Big relief for a student budget!"
